Bosma-chess
In the early 1990s the Dutch composer Rinke Bosma proposed a fairy form which stipulated that a king that is attacked three or more times simultaneously is not in check, having noticed that article 9.1 of the FIDE Laws of Chess stated that “The king is in check when the square it is standing on is attacked by one or two enemy pieces” (the wording was later changed to read “The king is said to be 'in check' if it is attacked by one or more of the opponent's pieces”). A theme tourney for problems featuring Bosma-chess was run by Probleemblad, and this perfectly-constructed problem took top spot.
The solution will appear here on Friday 17th October 2025.
