BCPS e-Weekend Programme

Here is the schedule of events during our first-ever e-Weekend.

The e-Weekend includes lectures, solving, quizzes, show-your-problem, and socialising, all by Zoom. One of the themes of the weekend will be remembering Barry Barnes, and our first lecture is specifically about Barry the person and his compositions.

We also have lectures by the study expert Yochanan Afek and the double-GM Jonathan Mestel. There is an informal solving competition, prepared by Michael McDowell, and we have some quizzes for you. There is a session where you can show problems you have composed yourself. And social sessions for chat and relaxation. Or you can simply connect by Zoom, sit back and listen - you choose.

Friday April 18th 2025:

• 7pm: Welcome and social session; distribution of solving sheets and quizzes (by e-mail)
• 7.30pm - 8.30pm Lecture by David Shire - "Barry - personal reflections"
• 8.30pm - 9pm Social session

Saturday April 19th 2025:

• 2pm - 3pm: BCPS AGM
• 3pm - 4pm: Lecture by Yochanan Afek - "Reinforced Phoenix"
• 4pm - 5pm: Show My Problem - your opportunity to demonstrate one of your compositions
• 5pm - 6pm: Break
• 6pm - 7pm: Social session
• 7pm - 8pm: Lecture by Jonathan Mestel - "What's Logic got to do with it?"
• 8pm - 9pm: Social session, quiz answers and solving competition answers; closing words.
