The venue for Society meetings has changed and the directions to it given on p. 126 of the July 2017 issue are incorrect. Meetings are held at the Hall of St. Botolph’s Church, Bishopsgate, London EC2M 3TL. The Hall is set in a small garden behind the church, less than 2 minutes’ walk from Liverpool St. mainline and underground stations.
This week’s twomover features plenty of tries. All you need to do is
“try” to sort out the key from the rest!
Solution to be published on Friday 8th August.
The thematic tries are as follows:
1.Sxe7? (Threat 2.Qd6#) 1...Bd3/Bxb1 2.Qc7/Rd5# but 1...Se5!
1.Qf4? (Threat 2.Qe3#) 1...Bd3/Bxb1 2.Qd4/Qxc4# but 1...Bd5!
There are also two non-thematic tries 1.Qd2? (Threats 2.Qe3,Qd4#) 1...Bd3! and 1.Qh4?
(Threat 2.Qxe7#) 1...Sf6!
The key is 1.Qc7! (Threat 2.Bxe7#) with the variations 1...Bxb1/Bd3
2.Sa7/Sxe7#
Thus we have two changed mates across three phases of play, for a 3x2 Zagoruiko
